Issues

Strong Civil Liberties

Libertarians believe that people should be free to engage in any peaceful and honest activity. To that end we support strong protection of civil liberties, including equal rights for gay couples, support for medical marijuana, and the right to keep and bear arms.

Fiscal Responsibility

A free-market economy, not government planning, is the best way to create jobs, keep the cost of goods down, and provide a better standard of living for everybody.   To that end, libertarians support eliminating the single business tax and replacing it, not with new taxes, but by making necessary budget cuts.  Libertarians oppose corporate welfare and burdensome regulations that keep small businesses from being competative and hiring new employees. We oppose all attempts to regulate and tax internet transactions.

Racial and Gender Preferences

Affirmative Action programs were implemented with the hope of reversing some of the historical injustices done to minority groups. However because many Affirmative Action programs still takes into account a persons race or gender, these programs are still a form of discrimination.

Even if ones intentions are good, racial discrimination is always an injustice because they set different standards for different races.  Libertarians oppose all forms of state sponsored discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation.

National Security
Protecting our national security is the most essential function of the federal government. The best way to keep America safe is by not getting involved in the internal affairs of foreign countries and to recognize the right to free trade, travel, and immigration. Too often, military aid and foreign aid help keep military dictators, church run monarchies, and bankrupt third world socialist regimes in business. American troops should be called back from the over 100 nations to which they are stationed. Economic sanctions should not be imposed on any nation either as it only hurts the citizens. For example, the longest serving head of state in the world is Fidel Castro in Cuba; a country the US has had an embargo against since the 1960s.

There is also no conflict between individual freedoms and national security. In fact, infringing upon individual rights compromises national security by diverting law enforcement away from more serious issues. Laws against victimless crimes such as drug use, prostitution, and gambling need to repealed so that police can focus on real threats. The FBI should be spending their resources investigating terrorist threats, not arresting medical marijuana patients. Better communication between federal agencies is essential for effective counterterrorism efforts.

Third Parties
Third parties have historically been a catalyst for change in the Republican and Democratic Parties. If you support any Libertarian proposals, then please vote for those candidates. While third parties rarely win elections, by earning a significant part of the vote, they send a strong message to the major parties and put pressure on them to change their stands on the issues. The principles of limited government and individual liberty must be returned to American politics.
